Scotland’s first Global Financial Services Conference is the centrepiece of the week-long series of events and is significant for anyone with an interest in Scotland’s role in international finance.

The conference will examine Scotland’s place in the world economy, discuss emerging markets in Russia, China and other Asian countries and highlight the challenges and opportunities faced in maintaining Scotland’s strong position in the global financial industry.

Some of the world’s leading economists and business leaders are speaking, including representatives from HBOS, Morgan Stanley, IBM, BNP Paribas and AEGON.

Alex Salmond has served as MP for Banff and Buchan at Westminster since 1987 and was leader of the SNP’s Westminster MPs from 2001 to 2007. He was elected as National Convener of the party in 2004 and MSP for the Gordon Constituency in May 2007. After the election, in 2007 Mr Salmond was elected First Minister of the Scottish Parliament.

He has chaired many high level business gatherings, including the Davos Symposium.

Ken graduated from Edinburgh University in 1971 with a MA in Economics and Economic History. He worked for several years with Arthur Andersen & Company in Glasgow and London. Immediately prior to joining Walter Scott & Partners Ltd in 1983 he was a Research Fellow at Edinburgh University. His PhD is in Financial Economics.

Sir David Brewer’s career has been in insurance broking, with Sedgwick, and he is now Non – Executive Vice-Chairman of Marsh Ltd. He opened the Sedgwick office in China in 1981, and is now Chairman of the China – Britain Business Council and a Board member of the UK India Business Council. He was Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2005/2006
